Junior Festival of Hockey

Newmarket juniors hosted a development festival on Sunday with teams coming from Cambridge South, Cambridge Nomads and Ely. Newmarket put out 12 teams across the various age groups of U8, U10, U12 girls and boys, and U14 girls and boys.
A great time was had by all and I have asked the coaches to nominate a player from each group as a player of the tournament from their individual teams:

U8
For the U8 (1) it has to be Ella, she ran back to defend and pushed up when needed. Her stick skills are becoming very impressive and more importantly, when the opposition were down a player, she was the first to volunteer to join them. Great attitude and selflessness.
U8 (Liam’s group) Aaron O. from Liam’s team, although they were all great especially against the Nomads team
Other U8 team – Esme for being all over the pitch and great tackling and commitment.

U10
Newmarket 1s (Blues) – Aaron A. Scored two reverse stick goals.
Newmarket 2s (Orange bibs) Ted B- great passing, calm on the ball and scored several goals.
Newmarket 3s (Yellow bibs) Sophia fantastic tackling, good passing and set up several goals. That being said they all played well, and all showed definite improvement.

U12 G
White team – Ella W for good team play but all played well and made progress,
Blues – Anya for getting stuck in, lots of blues playing for the first time too so great work – with a big shout out to Beth for her debut in goal, playing for both teams.

U12 B
Orange team – Todd – for great team play and being willing to keep battling through.
Blues is Logan for being calm and skilful under pressure from boys who are mostly bigger than him.
With a big shout out to Ted and Kieran for their debuts in goal.

U14 G
Amber Davison for her persistence and determination to never give, she scored several goals too.

U14 B
Jude for energy and skills… the result of lots of practice starting to show.

Thank you to all who contributed in some form over the day whether it be helping set up, coach / support a team, umpired, played or brought your junior, stayed the whole day or cooked the food / served the drinks and snacks. I would name everyone but there are simply too many. I am glad everyone enjoyed the day.
