Success at Junior Hockey Tournament

Newmarket Junior Hockey Club took 10 teams to Cambridge South on Sunday February 5th for various age groups / development competitions.

The U8s and U10s had teams from Cambridge City and Cambridge South to play against.

The U8s lions and tigers – nominated Mortimer as player of the tournament for Lions and Lara J for Tigers – all playing really well but the stand out moment for the Lions was taking on a Cambridge City team that put a dozen past us last time and holding them to 3 this time and almost scoring ourselves 😃 Great smiles and team spirit amongst the whole group today.

U10 – found some form with some amazing linking play occurring and some satisfying goals and results achieved. For the blue team we had some stand out play and players but some amazing work by Ted to attack and defend when the team needed – although everyone played amazingly. Oranges started to work hard positionally with manager M Benedikz being strict on those out of position despite excellent play – their player of the tournament was Lewis with a special mention to Anna and her hat.

Green team’s highlight was easily keeping a city team to a draw 2-2. Their player of the tournament was Nathan. Special mentions for Arthur and Annabelle for their contributions in the goals.

U12 G – player of the tournament for the girls was Beth for being willing to put on the GK kit. Some lovely linking play from the girls with Booth making some lovely runs linking with Jones in some great attacks – more practice needed on the scoring against keepers. Jones finally put the goal in the net by the post – superb position.

U12 B playing against St Neots and South teams – with Kieran as the player of the tournament making some promising moves to push forward and challenge for the ball as GK. The boys had some great linking play with boys scoring easily in their games and working harder to defend in others. There were 2 teams worth of boys all worthy of some superb mentions.

Both U12 groups had great passing and movement on display at times and some good goals and solid defending too.

U14 B played against South and St Neots – Alexander was player of the tournament for playing hard and getting stuck in. The GK was successful in defending some shuffles which the team opted into rather than shorts.

U14 G played against South and St Neots – player of the match Matilda for some great movement into space – the team just needs to work on looking up as they receive the ball to find the best options. Otherwise, they played hard, fought hard and worked well together with some amazing skills on display.
