Newmarket U14G played in a tournament in St. Neots today.
I’ve watched these young ladies playing hockey since they were nippers and past results at tournaments haven’t always been great. Today at St. Neots however, was a different story. We witnessed the birth of a team driven by determination, grit and a competitive spirit I’ve not seen before. Opponents St. Neots and Cambridge South were expecting an easy ride but not today. The first match was against St. Neots and Newmarket were tremendous from the off competing for every ball and earned a healthy 2-0 lead. Despite being under the kosh, St Neots played some good hockey and managed to get 2 of their own goals so the final result was 2-2.
The game against South was more of the same from Newmarket. Excellent movement off the ball, precision passing, but most of all that determination to compete and win shone through. South struggled throughout and despite a couple of consolation goals, Newmarket were comfortable 5-2 winners.
Ladies you were amazing today. The best performance I’ve ever seen from you and your best results to date. You should be very proud.
