In stark contrast to last week, Newmarket M1’s put in a scintillating attacking display scoring 9 goals in their home fixture against Dereham. Fantastic link up play from a fluid front 5 resulted in goals from Hardy x3, Atkinson x3, Dawson x2 and Wade. A comprehensive victory restored a positive goal difference for the season as the team heads to Harleston next week.
Meanwhile, Newmarket M2s secured their third win in a row against UEA mens 4s, with a 7-0 win at home. From the start, Newmarket put pressure on the much younger defence creating chance after chance, but the UEA keeper kept the onslaught of attacks at bay, saving everything Newmarket could throw at them. Eventually Pete Terret found the keepers weakness, shooting low to the corner, making it 1-0. Newmarket found their second goal when Jack Baker deflected an inch perfect cross from Matthew Holden, finishing the first half 2-0.
Newmarket started the second half, controlling possession throughout, with slick passing and great positioning. 5 more goals came, with Terret getting another 2 to secure his hat-trick and one a piece for Mark Pears, Drew Wood, Oliver Trent and Matthew Holden, who was voted man of the match, with his truck load of experience, from his dribbling prowess and eye for a deadly pass. UEA had no chance of stopping him.
M3’s however, were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat with Peter Booth scoring their consolation goal.
