46 Goal Fest!

Harleston Magpies M3 (6 – 6) Newmarket M1

An epic battle of two strong attacking lines. Never more than a goal in it, Newmarket constantly found themselves trailing in the high-quality goal fest. A last-minute equaliser from Simon Donald secured his hattrick along with the share of the points. Excellent finishes from Josh Dawson x2 and James Atkinson rounded off the scorers.

Harleston Magpies M5 (2 – 2) Newmarket M2

Newmarket travelled to Harleston with a squad of 13, looking to continue their winning streak. Newmarket started well, passing well, although some players losing their position in the recently adopted 4,3,3 formation. Magpies took advantage of this, finding space to easily pass through the defence to make it 1-0. This spurred the yellows to push forward, winning a couple of short corners, one of which scored by Matt Holden, whose shot took a massive deflection to loop over the keeper to make it 1-1. The home team lost their shape towards the end of the first half, making space for Mark Pears to fire the ball into the area,  with another deflection off a defenders stick, the ball floated in front of the young Jack Baker, and man of the match, who calmly slapped it down to the bottom corner of the goal, ending the half 1-2.

Half time was the worst thing to happen for Newmarket, as Harleston fought hard throughout the second half, pressing well, making it hard for Newmarket to break into the opposition half. After a few short corners, magpies eventually scored from one to make it 2-2. Newmarket tried hard to get a winning goal but time ran out, you win some and you lose some, but this time it ended as a draw.

Newmarket L1 (4 – 2) Norwich City L2

This Saturday delivered an exciting matchup between Newmarket Ladies 1s and Norwich City 2s. The first half saw both sides evenly matched, but Norwich City 2s managed to find the net twice, leaving Newmarket trailing 0-2 at halftime.

However, Newmarket emerged for the second half with the same tenacity that characterised their successful last season. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive comeback, as they scored four goals in the second half.

The first goal of the comeback was a classic from Di Farrell-Thomas, who made a touch the right under the keepers nose, finding the backboard with precision. Jess Richardson added to the excitement with a golden touch off a deflection for the second goal. The third goal was a display of finesse by forward Maisy Swan. Finally, Claire McDonnell sealed the victory with a powerful straight strike, earning her the well-deserved title of Player of the Match.

This game marked a high point for the Newmarket Ladies 1s season so far! The team also welcomed the addition of newcomer Imogen Jenner, who proved to be a valuable asset to the Ladies 1s lineup. The team hopes to continue from this form in next weeks home game!

Newmarket L2 (3 – 4) Ely City L1

Ladies 2s fought really hard but couldn’t quite find the equaliser that they deserved from this game. Hard work is paying off though and improvements are happening so hopefully that win is coming soon. Goal scorers Jazz Freed x2 and Maisie Swann.

Newmarket L3 (0 – 1) St Ives L4

Newmarket L3 played an evenly matched St Ives 4s. The game was tight was nothing much separating either team. Good attacks, linking play, potential for the future. St Ives scored in the latter part of the second half.
