Newmarket Hockey Club entered both a boys and girls team into the IN2 Hockey U10 Cambridgeshire Plate on Sunday 12th March. This was the first opportunity post Covid that Newmarket had to pit their youngsters against other local clubs in a major competition.
The girls faced Saffron Walden, Cambridge South and Cambridge City, all three much larger clubs. After 3 hard fought games they were unfortunate not to register any wins. It was though, a wonderful opportunity for the girls to develop and they will take what they have learned into their next tournament.
The boys faced off against the same opposition as the girls and managed a win and a draw from their first two games, the scene was then set for them to face off against Cambridge City in their final game. In a very tight game Newmarket left it late, scoring with only a minute left on the clock to seal the Plate for Newmarket, their first trophy at the age group.
